Captioned in Ottoman Turkish and French, this albumen print documents an imperial military middle school at Diyarbakir, one of the provincial *rüşdiye-yi askeri* schools that the Ottoman government expanded during the reign of Sultan Abdul Hamid II, who ruled from 1876 to 1909. These schools prepared boys for further military training, and building them in distant provinces reflected a broader effort to extend state authority and modern instruction into Anatolia. The picture is number 10 in an album that pairs school architectural plans with student portraits, so it works both as a record of a particular building and as an example of official self-presentation.
