This 1943 poster is a Navy recruiting appeal aimed at women, asking them to join the Waves, the Navy's women's reserve, as teammates in the war effort. Congress created the Waves in July 1942, and Mildred McAfee was named its director, so the poster came out during the service's early expansion. John Falter, a commercial illustrator, produced many of the Navy's wartime posters, and this one reflects the wartime push to bring women into jobs that freed men for combat duty.
