Hanover, New Hampshire, sets this poster apart: it is a color announcement for paintings by Richard Anuszkiewicz at Dartmouth College's Hopkins Center, on view from November 10 to December 5, 1967. Anuszkiewicz, born in 1930, was among the leading figures of Op art, the mid-1960s movement that used hard-edged geometry and carefully tuned color to make flat surfaces seem to shimmer and pulse. He had studied with Josef Albers at Yale, and Albers's interest in how neighboring colors shift one another runs through his work. Posters like this one show how a college arts center brought contemporary painting to its campus and town during that decade.
