Seoul around 1904 is the setting for this stereograph of a grist-mill, where turnip seed is beaten into meal by hand. The caption calls the mill primitive, a label that reflects an outside observer's view of rural work more than the skill involved. Underwood & Underwood, the American firm that issued the card, sold views like this in large numbers for parlor stereoscopes, so scenes of Korean daily life reached viewers far from Korea. The date and details come from the original caption and have not been independently verified.
