Balboa Park in San Diego hosted this exposition, whose caption card lists exhibitions and mining among its subjects. The Panama-California Exposition opened in 1915 to mark the opening of the Panama Canal and to showcase San Diego's growth as a Pacific port. Its grounds were designed largely by architect Bertram Goodhue in a Spanish Colonial Revival style, with towers, arcades, and courtyards that gave the fair a look still associated with the city. The record carries unverified data from the caption card, so the exact scene is best read through the fair's broader purpose.
