The caption on this print, which begins "Against the ever-stronger massed British...", presents Erwin Rommel's forces as holding out against a growing Allied build-up in North Africa. The picture dates to the first week of November 1942, when the Second Battle of El Alamein was turning against the Axis in Egypt. Rommel's Afrika Korps was short of fuel, tanks and men, and he began pulling back westward within days. It comes from the German illustrated album *Grossdeutschland im Weltgeschehen*, published in 1942, so its tone is worth reading with that propaganda purpose in mind.
