Mary Cassatt's *Mother's Kiss* is a color print, made with drypoint and aquatint, that shows a mother tenderly kissing her child, a theme Cassatt returned to throughout her career. The impression is signed in pencil by the artist and notes that it was printed by her and M. Leroy, a Parisian printer she worked with on this series. Cassatt, an American who spent most of her working life in France, was closely associated with the Impressionists, and in the early 1890s she turned to printmaking to explore color and line in new ways. Her work from this period shows the influence of Japanese woodblock prints, particularly in its flat areas of color and its close, intimate framing.
