Its title, "Kiss me quick!", is the first thing to notice, and it tells you what the scene is about: a couple caught in an embrace, classed in the record as courtship. Currier & Ives, the New York firm that published it sometime between 1850 and 1900, sold colored prints by the thousands to households across the country. Chromolithography, which built a finished image from several successive color stones, made such pictures cheap enough for ordinary parlor walls. The print is no. 3614 in the firm's catalog raisonné, which places it among the many sentimental and comic courtship scenes the company offered.
