Its Italian title, *Carro delle zaffosina*, names a cart, and that wheeled vehicle sets this sheet apart from the boats and harbor scenes that share its subject tags. The engraving dates to 1607, when Italian writers on mechanics published illustrated treatises showing machines for lifting, hauling and moving goods. Plates like this were meant to be studied as closely as admired, so the fine linework lays out the vehicle's parts and supports in detail. The mix of transport and mechanical subjects reflects that tradition, in which a conveyance and its working mechanism were often presented together.
