The title on this glass negative reads "Carroll Richmond," with a date of December 29, 1922, but the National Photo Company recorded both from the negative or its sleeve without verification, so the label may not fully explain the scene. The company worked mainly in Washington, D.C., in the early twentieth century and produced a large body of street, event, and commercial pictures that document daily life in the capital and beyond. Because the image is on glass, viewers may notice streaks and blemishes that the catalog attributes to natural deterioration of the original coating rather than to the photographer's choices.
