Rather than a view of a city, this negative appears to show a person styled with a British peerage title: Earl of March, a courtesy title borne by the heir to the Duke of Richmond. That dukedom takes its name from Richmond in Yorkshire, not from any American city. The caption is unverified, so the sitter's identity is uncertain, and the Richmond on this gallery board may be a coincidence. The Bain News Service, a New York agency, produced many such glass negatives in the early twentieth century for newspaper use, so this one likely reflects that wire-photo trade.
