The Church of the Assumption, or Uspensky Cathedral, stands within the Kremlin walls in Moscow, where it served as the main cathedral of the Russian state and the site of tsarist coronations. Built between 1475 and 1479 by the Italian architect Aristotle Fioravanti, it was modeled on an earlier Assumption cathedral in Vladimir and became the burial place of many metropolitans and patriarchs.
