Arch Rock Entrance is the name given to the gateway on the Wawona Road, where the highway passes through a natural granite arch on its way into Yosemite Valley. Built in the early twentieth century, the road brought the first wave of motorists into the park, and this stone portal became one of its most recognizable features. Visitors who pass beneath it today are following a route that once carried horse-drawn stages and early automobiles across rugged Sierra country.
