A swearing-in ceremony involving a man titled "Theo. Roosevelt" is the subject here, but that title is unverified. Theodore Roosevelt the president died in January 1919, so the date range of 1921 to 1922 points to a different Roosevelt of the period, though the record does not say which. The National Photo Company, a Washington, D.C., studio that documented officials and public events in the early twentieth century, made the negative, which Herbert A. French gave to the Library of Congress in 1947. The streaks and blemishes visible on the glass come from deterioration of its original coating.
