A June scene of a seaside amusement park, with a roller coaster rising over the beach, places the season squarely in summer leisure. The sheet is a color silkscreen from 1938, made under the Works Progress Administration's Federal Art Project, which turned silkscreen into an inexpensive way to produce posters and calendar designs for public use. Many of these works celebrated recreation and community life during the Depression, and this one shows how the country's boardwalks and rides were pictured as everyday pleasures. Its later reproduction in a 1987 book on WPA posters helped keep such images in circulation.
