Catalogued under the single word "Roosevelt" and undated, this glass negative names no occasion, so its subject rests on the title and the gallery's Theodore Roosevelt board. It comes from the George Grantham Bain Collection at the Library of Congress, built from the New York Bain News Service, which supplied news photographs to newspapers in the early twentieth century. Glass plates like this were the standard medium for press photography of the period, and many survive with little more than a caption card. Because the title was recorded from unverified notes, the identification deserves some caution.
