A wartime appeal for Near East relief, this poster asks Americans to help with a campaign for $30,000,000 and a reported 400,000 orphans in need, with the line "no state aid available" making the case that private giving was the only help. It was issued by the American Committee for Relief in the Near East, the group that later became Near East Relief, and it reflects the famine and displacement in Armenia, Syria, and neighboring regions during the First World War. The Committee on Public Information's Division of Pictorial Publicity, the federal office that produced many 1917 and 1918 posters, also worked on it. The unidentified monogram in the corner is a detail worth a closer look.
