Belle Archer is the named star of this 1900 black-and-white lithograph for *Jess of the Bar Z*, a production set on a New Mexico ranch. The poster was printed by the Russell-Morgan Print Company of Cincinnati and New York, a firm that produced many theatrical advertisements, and it credits Fred E. Wright as director. Its caption promises "scenes and incidents of ranch life," which reflects how Western stories had become a popular draw on American stages around 1900. Horses, cowboys, and open range were the visual shorthand audiences expected from a play like this.
