Issued in Tel Aviv in 1947, this chromolithograph was produced for the Tourist Office of the Jewish Agency for Palestine in Jerusalem to draw visitors to the country under the slogan "the land of the Bible." Mechner Publicity designed it, and E. Lewin-Epstein Ltd. published it. It belongs to a wave of travel advertising from the late Mandate period, when the Jewish Agency and the British administration hoped to build a tourist trade around biblical sites and modern cities. The UN partition vote later that year and the violence that followed made such promotion largely impossible, which gives the poster a poignant place in its history.
