A roadway runs through a stone tunnel on River Drive in Fairmont Park, the large public park that follows the Schuylkill River through Philadelphia. The caption card lists automobiles, which points to the view around 1913, when motorcars were becoming a common sight on park roads that had been laid out for carriages and riders. The Detroit Publishing Company, known for its many views of American towns, parks and scenic routes, made the photograph. Some details on the original card are unverified, so the exact date and setting are best read as approximate.
