Few views of Panama City from this period show the city's rail link so clearly. The panorama places the railroad station at the right center, a reminder that the Panama Railroad, completed in 1855, linked the Pacific port of Panama City with the Atlantic side of the isthmus. After the United States took over the canal project in 1904, the railroad became a vital supply and transport line, and the station was one of the busiest points in the city. The picture was entered for copyright in March 1909, when the canal was still under construction and the city was changing quickly.
