Corinth, in Saratoga County, New York, was a river and mill town in 1888, set where the Hudson River and Fish Creek brought water power and timber to the village. Its economy rested on lumber, wood pulp, and paper, with mills drawing logs cut in the Adirondack foothills to the north and shipping goods by rail and river. Residents thought of Corinth as a working community of mill hands, farmers, and merchants, with churches, schools, and village stores clustered along its streets. The village's rhythm followed the mill whistles and the seasons of river flow, and the surrounding countryside of farms and wooded hills supplied both labor and raw material.
