The only identifying detail for this glass negative is the name Johnny King, a title the Bain News Service wrote on the negative or its caption card and which the Library of Congress has not verified. Bain's agency, founded in New York in 1899, sold news photographs to newspapers and magazines, and its glass plates from the early twentieth century cover politics, sports, and city life. The record gives no date or further description, so the sitter and the occasion remain unknown, but the small plate size of 5 by 7 inches or less is typical of the agency's working negatives.
