This photograph shows a crew of eight men skinning a bison carcass, so the focus is on the work after the kill rather than the hunt itself. The record does not say where it was taken, and "Buffalo" in the title refers to the animal, not the city of Buffalo, New York. By about 1904, the market hunting of the 1870s and 1880s had reduced bison to a small surviving population, mostly in protected herds such as those in Yellowstone, so a scene like this is a late record of a practice that had nearly ended. The date and details come from an old caption card and have not been independently verified.
