At the 101 Ranch near Bliss, Oklahoma, Ponca men are shown skinning a bison, a task that was part of daily work on a large working ranch run by the Miller Brothers. The Poncas had been moved from Nebraska to Indian Territory in 1877, and by the 1890s many Ponca men worked on the ranch as cowhands and performers. The ranch kept a bison herd at a time when the animals had nearly disappeared from the plains, which makes the scene a rare record of butchering on a ranch. The print was published by H.H. Clarke, and its catalog date range suggests it dates from between 1892 and 1930.
