Few hospital complexes of the early 1930s were as ambitious as the New York Hospital and Cornell Medical College campus on York Avenue, which the two institutions developed together on Manhattan's East Side around 1932. This view, titled for the Association Buildings on York Avenue, shows the medical center's stone-faced institutional architecture, built to present medicine as orderly and monumental. The print was made by Irving Underhill, a New York City photographer, and its date of about 1932 comes from a caption card that has not been independently verified.
