A glass negative dated October 26, 1922, and labeled "Amb. Sze" by the National Photo Company, a Washington studio that documented officials, diplomats, and events in the nation's capital in the 1910s and 1920s. Alfred Sao-ke Sze was China's envoy in Washington during the early 1920s, when the Washington Naval Conference drew many foreign representatives to the city. The identification comes from the studio's own notation and has not been independently verified. Viewers should also notice the streaks and blemishes that have developed in the glass coating over time, which are typical of negatives from this era and affect how the image prints.
