The title places this view at 620 G Street SE, on Capitol Hill, where Christ Church stands as one of the city's older Episcopal congregations, with roots reaching back to the capital's early years. The photograph was made on a glass negative around 1920 or 1921 by the National Photo Company, a commercial studio that documented Washington streets and buildings, many of which were sold as postcards and views. Its survival on glass, rather than as a later print, is part of its interest, since the emulsion has aged and shows the streaks and blemishes typical of early plates.
