Its title sets this picture apart: a business or building called the Times at 5501 13th Street Northwest, far north of the Mall in a residential and commercial stretch of the city. The National Photo Company, which worked in Washington from about 1907, sent photographers across the District to record streets, storefronts and houses, and its glass negatives now form a broad portrait of the capital in the years after World War I. The library notes that the title comes from unverified information written on the negative or its sleeve, so the name is worth checking. Any streaks or blemishes on the glass come from the aging of the original coating, not from the scene itself.
