A building at 820 Kennedy, identified in the title only as the "Herald," anchors this view, though the National Photo Company recorded that title from its own notes and it has not been independently checked. The company worked in Washington from about 1907 to 1931, sending photographers across the city to document streets, storefronts and houses that were later issued as postcards and prints. Dated between 1920 and 1921, this glass negative came to the Library of Congress as a gift from Herbert A. French in 1947, and its streaks and blemishes reflect natural deterioration of the original coating.
