This portrait shows Harry Hooper in the uniform of the Boston American League club, the team that later became known as the Red Sox. Hooper played right field for Boston during the 1910s and was part of an outfield with Tris Speaker and Duffy Lewis that sportswriters dubbed the "Million Dollar Outfield." The team was then a rising power in the American League, and it went on to win the World Series in 1915, 1916 and 1918. Studio portraits like this one, taken during the 1910s, were often used to publicize players and sold as cards or prints to fans who followed the club closely.
