The Kittatinny House was one of the large summer hotels at Delaware Water Gap, the mountain gap on the Delaware River where Pennsylvania and New Jersey meet. Resort hotels like this one drew visitors from New York and Philadelphia by rail in the late 1800s, and the gap's scenery made the town a favorite destination for leisure travelers. This photogravure, copyrighted by A. Wittemann of Brooklyn, is a reproduction process valued for its fine tonal detail, and it was often used for souvenir views of such resorts. The date of about 1898 is marked as unverified in the record, so it should be read as approximate.
