The slogan, "Don't dream of victory, fight for it! Buy Liberty Bonds," casts the home front as part of the fight and asks viewers to see a bond purchase as a contribution to the war effort. Issued in 1918, this tall color lithograph belongs to the wave of Liberty Loan posters the federal government used to raise money for the American war effort during World War I. Its artist is unidentified, though a monogram appears in the design. Posters like this one often paired a direct slogan with images of soldiers, reflecting how war financing depended on ordinary citizens lending money to their government.
