Back him up!" is the slogan that sets this 1917 Canadian lithograph apart, asking people at home to support the soldier overseas by buying Victory Bonds. The poster belongs to Canada's wartime borrowing campaigns, when the government sold bonds to households to help pay for the war. Its record also lists the Canada Food Board as a sponsor, a reminder that home-front appeals of the period often overlapped with rationing and conservation. Posters like this were printed in quantity and displayed in public places, where they reached workers and families who had savings to lend.
