Few places in the capital tie the Army's history together as closely as Washington Barracks, a post in southwest Washington at the meeting point of the Potomac and Anacostia rivers. By the years this view was made, the Army War College had settled there to educate senior officers. The picture comes from the National Photo Company, a firm that sold views of the capital to visitors in the early twentieth century. The glass itself shows streaks and faint blemishes from the slow breakdown of its original coating, which are worth noticing alongside the scene.
