Bealton Station, a stop on the Orange and Alexandria Railroad in Fauquier County, Virginia, appears here as a supply depot, with the rail line and the camps and stores around it. In the autumn of 1863, after the Gettysburg campaign, the Union Army of the Potomac relied on rail lines like this one to move food, ammunition and equipment to troops along the Rappahannock, which made stations such as Bealton vital links in the army's supply chain. The drawing is dated October 1, 1863, and belongs to a Civil War drawing collection that J.P. Morgan gave to the Library of Congress in 1919.
