This tall color lithograph advertises the first Exposition d'Art Décoratif, and its catalog record lists nude figures among its subjects, which sets it apart from many decorative-arts posters of the period. It was printed in Paris in 1894 by G. de Malherbe, whose Passage des Favorites address appears on the sheet. Lithographic posters like this one flourished in Paris in the 1890s, when printmakers and designers gave public advertising a new artistic polish. The poster also reflects the era's wider push to bring decorative art into public view, a goal that exhibitions of this kind were built to serve.
