Federal buildings of this kind combined a post office, customs house and federal courtroom under one roof, so a single structure could serve nearly every federal function in a city. This view of the Cleveland building comes from the Detroit Publishing Company collection and dates to roughly 1910 to 1930, when the company was documenting American cities and landmarks. The record describes it as a copy of a photographic print, made by photographing that print onto a 5 x 7 inch glass dry plate negative, so the image preserves an earlier print rather than an original exposure of the building.
