Bennett Park, the Detroit Tigers' home field at Michigan Avenue and Trumbull Avenue near the Corktown neighborhood, hosted this 1907 contest against Chicago. That summer the Tigers won the American League pennant, and Ty Cobb claimed the batting title, which drew fans who followed the club closely. Detroit was growing quickly on the strength of its manufacturing, and the automobile trade was gaining ground, with the Ford Motor Company already operating in the city since 1903. Streetcar lines carried crowds from neighborhoods across town to the grounds, making baseball one of the city's most visible shared pastimes. The Tigers later lost the 1907 World Series to the Chicago Cubs.
