A December 1861 plate from *Godey's Lady's Book* stands out because its subjects include wedding clothing, not only everyday or evening dress. Louis A. Godey's Philadelphia magazine was one of the most widely read women's periodicals of the nineteenth century, and its fashion plates set styles for readers across the country. Engraved by Capewell & Kimmel and colored by hand, the print shows the wide crinoline silhouette of the early 1860s. Its colors were applied by hand, so individual copies vary in shade.
