Herbert Hoover appears in this glass negative, which is dated to 1929, the year he took office as the 31st president. The date is inferred from neighboring negatives in the same range, and the companion's name, Eichner, comes from a title the National Photo Company wrote on the negative or its sleeve that has not been verified. The National Photo Company was a Washington studio whose work recorded official and public life in the capital in the early twentieth century. The streaks and blemishes visible on the glass are the kind of natural deterioration that affects old coatings on plates of this age.
