Taken in late August 1929, this glass negative shows President Herbert Hoover with Dr. Hugo Eichner, about six months into Hoover's term after his March inauguration. The National Photo Company, a Washington studio, made large numbers of such plates documenting officials and public life in the capital. The names come from data the company wrote on the negative sleeve and have not been independently verified, so the occasion is worth checking before relying on it. Streaks and blemishes across the plate reflect the gradual breakdown of its original coating, a common condition in glass negatives of this age.
