Promoting the winter sports of Valle d'Aosta, this 1937 lithograph was issued by ENIT, Italy's national tourism agency, to draw skiers to the Alpine valleys on the country's northwestern border. The poster is credited to Puppo and was printed by Pizzi & Pizio, with imprints in both Milan and Rome. In the 1930s the Fascist government encouraged mountain tourism as a source of national prestige and revenue, and posters like this one show how travel advertising of the period combined bold modern graphic design with images of Italy's mountain landscapes.
