Dated January 1, 1924, this glass negative records a New Year's reception held on the first day of the year. The National Photo Company, a Washington, D.C., commercial studio, produced large numbers of glass negatives for clients and events in the early twentieth century, and its files are now held by the Library of Congress. The title comes from data the company wrote on the negative or its sleeve and has not been independently verified, so the hosts and guests are not identified in the record. Streaks and blemishes visible on the surface are typical of glass plates whose original coatings have deteriorated with age.
