The Triangle Route was a looping road circuit that let travelers see Yosemite's valley and surrounding high country without doubling back over the same ground. By 1913 the park had been a federal reserve since 1890, and the valley had returned to federal management in 1906, so roads like this were built and maintained under national oversight. Visitors then still relied heavily on horse-drawn stages and wagons, while motor cars were just beginning to reshape park travel. The route shows how the valley was being opened to a growing tourist trade in the years before the National Park Service was created.
