This 1902 bird's-eye view shows New Kensington, a Westmoreland County town on the Allegheny River, drawn as if seen from a high oblique angle that lets the streets, rail lines, and riverfront appear in a single sweep. Panoramic maps like this were popular in the late 1800s and early 1900s, when towns often commissioned them to show growth and local industry. New Kensington had grown around manufacturing, and the Aluminum Company of America had a major works there, so the map offers a useful record of how the town looked at the start of the twentieth century. The map was credited to James B. Moyer and T. M. Fowler, a artist known for many such city views.
