Among the many Washington views in this set, this glass negative stands out for recording the Panama Legation on New Hampshire Avenue. In the years after the First World War, many foreign legations occupied converted townhouses in the streets near Dupont Circle, and this one reflects that growing diplomatic presence in the capital. The National Photo Company, a commercial studio that photographed across Washington in the early twentieth century, made the image. The plate shows the streaks and blemishes common to aging glass negatives.
