Few views of the 1893 fair show its whole plan at once, and this official birdseye print looks down on the grounds Chicago built for the World's Columbian Exposition. The fair marked the 400th anniversary of Columbus's arrival in the Americas and filled Jackson Park on the South Side with white neoclassical palaces grouped around a long lagoon, a plan directed by Daniel Burnham. The record associates the print with Winters Art Litho. Co. and dates its copyright entry to October 1892, months before the gates opened.
