The title, "L'Escola de tots" (Catalan for "The School of Everyone"), sets this lithograph apart from many Republican posters of the period, since it appeals to schooling for all children rather than to soldiers or the front. The Escola Nova Unificada that published it was part of the 1930s push for a unified, secular public school system in Catalonia, a reform that the Second Spanish Republic and its regional government pursued as the Civil War began in 1936. Its depiction of boys and girls together reflects that goal of education open to every child regardless of background.
