This print reproduces *The Horse Fair*, the large canvas Rosa Bonheur painted to show horses being led through a Paris horse market. The painting was shown at the Paris Salon in 1853 and made her one of the most famous animal painters of her time. Bonheur studied horses closely and drew them in markets and stables, and her attention to their movement and temperament set the work apart from earlier sporting art. The shelflist card ties the print to the firm Sarony, Major & Knapp, but the card carries no date, so the print's exact origin remains uncertain.
